About Ipswich Town FC
Ipswich Town Football Club is an English professional football club from Ipswich, Suffolk County, England. Spends home games at the Portman Road Stadium with a capacity of 30 311 people.
ITFC was founded in 1878, received the status of a professional club in 1936. In 1938 Ipswich joined the Football League. It is the only fully professional club in Suffolk County.
Ipswich Town once became the champion of England: this happened in the 1961/62 season, the first season of the club in the top division of English football. Twice the team occupied the second place in the top division of the English championship (in the seasons 1980/81 and 1981/82). Ipswich Town also won the FA Cup in 1978, as well as the UEFA Cup in 1981.
Currently playing in League 1, the third most important division in the football league system in England.
The team was able to return to the Premier League in the 1999/2000 season. On the move, the club finished fifth and ended up in the UEFA Cup. However, the “white” streak did not last long. After a season, the team again sank into the First Division. In 2002, Burley was fired, the post of coach was taken by Joe Royle. The team finished seventh in the First Division.
In the 2003/04 season, Ipswich was one step away from returning, but lost to West Ham United in the playoff finals. The 2005/06 season was the worst night for the fans – 15th place in the Football League Championship. A month later, Jim Magilton was appointed coach of the club, under whose leadership the team in the 2007/08 season took eighth place in the First Division.
In the 2010/11 season, Ipswich Town, led by Roy Keane, showed an excellent result in the Football League Cup, where he reached the semifinals. The formidable Arsenal got into the rivals, but even against such an opponent, the Blues found tricks. In the first home game, Ispwich sensationally beat the gunners 1-0. Goal scored by Priskin in the 78th minute. But in the second leg, the “townspeople” lost 3-0.
